We’ve got an amazing festival lineup for our last night of the Charlton and Woolwich Free Film Festival with three films (two of them outdoors) on Friday 14th September 2018. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at Shrewsbury House

While truanting from school, young siblings Jeremy and Jemima meet the beautiful Truly Scrumptious (Sally Ann Howes), who falls for their widowed father, Caractacus Potts (Dick Van Dyke), and his various oddball inventions, including the family’s noisy rebuilt car, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

One day at the beach, Caractacus tells Truly and the children a fanciful fable about the villainous Baron Bomburst (Gert Frobe) and his evil designs on the Potts family car.

Toot sweets and Truly Scrumptious snacks, and Baron Bomburst Bar open until 10pm.

The Dish at Charlton House

July 1969. Apollo 11’s astronauts will walk on the moon – and a huge satellite dish outside a sheep-farming Australian town has been chosen to beam the live footage globally. The whole world is depending on scientist Cliff Buxton (Sam Neill – Jurassic Park), who must steer the telescope’s eccentric crew through a sea of mishaps and disasters that threaten to spoil the small town’s finest hour.

Watching over them is a by-the-book NASA representative who can’t quite understand their quirky working methods. A comical culture clash erupts in this effortlessly funny tale of how history’s biggest televised event was almost cancelled. The Dish is a warm-hearted and hilarious comedy based on a true story of what the world didn’t see.

We will be joined by members of the Flamsteed Astronomy Society and the cafe will be open.

Young Frankenstein at Severndroog Castle

An American grandson of the infamous scientist in invited to Transylvania, where he discovers the process that reanimates a dead body. Respected medical lecturer Dr Frederick Frankenstein learns that he has inherited his infamous grandfather’s estate in Transylvania.

Arriving at the castle, Dr Frankenstein soon begins to recreate his grandfather’s experiments with the help of servants. After he creates his own monster, new complications ensue with the arrival of the doctor’s fiancée.

There will be an opportunity to visit the castle’s viewing platform for it’s amazing views of London. Also, the café will be serving drinks — inc. cocktails — and light meals

Rail: Charlton (exit station and head right, going up the hill – the 486 bus from outside the station (slightly to the left, opposite the Post Office) will take you up the hill (Charlton Church Lane), the 380 bus turns onto the hill a little further up. The best bus stop at which to alight is Stop S (Warren Walk) and continue walking upwards to Charlton House, or continue round past the church and stop a little further along at Stop R (Charlton Village) and walk back on the flat bit. Rail: Westcombe Park – you can take the 422 bus all the way to Charlton House and stop either the Charlton Road Victoria Way bus stop (just before Charlton House) or at Stop R (Charlton Village).

Area: Blackheath Royal Standard – 53, 54 and 422 are the best buses, all stop at Charlton Road Victoria Way bus stop (just before Charlton House) or at Stop R (Charlton Village). The 380 eventually stops at Stop R but it takes a different and much longer route to get there.
Rail: Blackheath – the 54 bus will take you all the way there, alight at the Charlton Road Victoria Way bus stop (just before Charlton House) or at Stop R (Charlton Village). The 108 or 202 buses from the station will take you to Blackheath Royal Standard, as will the 380 from a little further up by The Crown pub.

Rail / DLR: Woolwich Arsenal – buses 53, 54 and 422 will drop you off at Bus Stop P which is right outside Charlton House. Beware buses 380 or 486 which will drop you at Bus Stop Q (with a short walk) as after that they turn RIGHT into Charlton Church Lane and head in the wrong direction.
